Am I Depressed or Just Sad?

I've been feeling pretty lonely and sad lately. Having feelings of anxiety too.
I feel that I have no friends but I guess that's my fault, I kind of lost contact with people. I should also mention that my behavior has changed in a way and I skip meals sometimes.
There are some family issues going on in the extended family.
Is there a way to tell the difference between being depressed and just feeling sad?

It is normal to feel sad from time to time.

A huge difference between sadness and depression is that a person experiencing feelings which they find disconcerting can reasonably tell you what it is that is causing their unhappiness, a person suffering from depression may not be able to do so.

Also I think that if you just fell sad, you know that things will get better over time; if your are depressed then you may not see an end to your problem.

Some indications that you suffer from depression:

1. You feel sad or anxious all the time.

2. You can't sleep or you awake extremely early in the morning.

3. You lose your appetite or you increase your appetite.

4. You can't enjoy any activities, lose your interest in doing anything.

5. Feeling restless or irritable.

6. Difficulty concentrating or being decisive.

7. Feeling exhausted.

8. Feeling hopeless, helpless and worthless.

9. Physical problems that have no medical cause.

These are just some tips, you should talk about this with your friends and family. It is always good to be around people who cares for you.
