Is messenger plus a virus?

One of my friends installed Microsoft messenger plus on his computer.
Messenger plus comes with more options and smilies than the regular messenger. I want to install it too but I've been warned that messenger plus is a virus and that I should stay away from it. Is messenger plus a virus?

No it is not a virus. It is exactly what it says...a trojan, a Swizzor I think. If you do not un-check the advertising "sponsor" during the install process you will receive a ton of pop-up ads.

SiteAdvisor says it is dangerous because of the advertising program included, but there is an easy way to get around it.

It's been almost a year since I downloaded it and it's working fine on my computer and no viruses. I just got a little warning sign when I was about to download it that it may contain viruses or threats but it didn't.

I suggest getting the real messenger instead of messenger plus if you're scared.
