Why The World Will End In 2012?

Is it true that the world will end in 2012? I've been hearing about it on TV and the web but, is it really true?

The Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012. This has been determined to mean the end of an age, or existence as we know it.
So who knows? Maybe the world ends or something huge happens. I personally think it won't but you can never be sure.
