Is it safe to travel to Cancun Mexico?

I plan to take my family on vacation this summer. A friend visited Cancun last year in Mexico and recommended the place to me. I saw the pictures he took and realized Cancun is a wonderful place. But I'm not completely sure if Mexico is a safe place to go with your family.
I have two small kids.

Yes, it is safe to travel in Mexico. Mexican goverment put special attention to tourists.
I went there 3 years ago and I've always wanted to get back. Cancun is so beautiful.

Mexico is a big country and it's incredibly diverse, so violence along the US border won't have any effect on your vacation in, for example, the beautiful Mayan Riviera any more than an earthquake in California would affect people in Chicago.

Mexico has much to offer as a vacation destination, including good value, a rich cultural heritage and stunning scenery.

There are plenty of places in Mexico where you can have a tranquil, relaxing vacation.
