Meb Keflezighi Training?

Meb Keflezighi won the ING New York City Marathon. He had a good time, two hours, nine minutes, 15 seconds. He became the first U.S. runner to win the race since Alberto Salazar in 1982.
In the final steps Meb pointed to the red block letters on his singlet.
The letters spelled USA. Keflezighi wanted to make sure everybody noticed them, as if there were any chance that they wouldn't.

I'd like to know how Meb Keflezighi trained to win the race. What's his training background?

Through the years, Meb's unswerving work ethic, attention to detail, and positive mental outlook have earned him widespread admiration.

Meb Keflezighi played soccer like all his friends, but began to concentrate more on running after clocking a 5:20 mile in 7th grade. At San Diego High, he won three CA state titles his senior year (cross country, 1600 meters and 3200 meters). In the big Foot Locker Cross-Country Championships (1993), he finished second to Adam Goucher. After former U.S. marathon star Ron Tabb watched Meb training one afternoon in San Diego, Tabb told Meb that he would make a great marathoner some day. Meb thought Tabb was crazy. And the 26.2-mile distance too.

A friend sent me an email last week commenting on how they've been spotting Meb Keflezighi training in Central Park lately. Below is a photo of Meb near the Reservoir on the East Side in Central Park training.
