Pythagoras Death?

Pythagoras is often referred to as the first pure mathematician. Pythagoras was well educated, and he played the lyre throughout his lifetime, knew poetry and recited Homer. He was interested in mathematics, philosophy, astronomy and music, and was greatly influenced by Pherekydes (philosophy), Thales (mathematics and astronomy) and Anaximander (philosophy, geometry).

As for Pythagoras' death, there are two theories. They agree that around 500 BC, there was an uprising against the Pythagoreans and the city of Croton was pillaged and burned. Pythagoras fled and was either caught and killed by rebels when he refused to cross a bean field, or managed to make his way to Metapontum (on the coast of Italy), where he took refuge in the Temple of the Muses and eventually died of starvation.

Concerning the death of Pythagoras, the accounts varied. Some say that he perished in the temple with his disciples, others that he fled first to Tarentum, and that, being driven from there, he escaped to Metapontum, and there starved himself to death. His tomb was shown at Metapontum in the time of Cicero.
