What Was Lucille Ball's Childhood Like?

Lucille Ball, who is better known for her role in I love Lucy, is being honored for what would have been her 100th birthday.
I'm interested in her childhood story. What was Lucille Ball's childhood like? Was she a happy little girl?
Because I heard Lucille Ball had some issue and she managed to overcome them and become a very successful actress.
Where can I read about Lucille Ball's childhood?

Lucille Ball's childhood was not easy. Her dad died before she was 4 years old, and her mom worked several jobs, so she and her brother had to be raised by their grandparents.
Since her father had a very contagious disease before he passed away, Lucille Ball's neighbors were scared of the family. So Lucille was not allowed to play with other kids.
Lucille Ball was a very happy girl though, she would stage plays at home with her family as cast, crew and audience.
At the end of her childhood, at the age of fifteen, Lucy dropped out of high school and with her mother's approval enrolled in the John Murray Anderson School of the theater in New York City. That's when Lucille's career started.
