IRS 2011: Where's My Refund?

I'd like to check the status of my income tax refund now in 2011, hoping I will get the IRS check or direct deposit quickly.

I know the IRS has created a website to make things easier, a friend sent me the link but the site won't load on my computer.

When I called the IRS last night it did say it was unavailable so I just thought they may be updating.

Does anyone know how does the IRS' Where's My Refund tool work?

You should keep trying until the IRS website works. The IRS is looking to get tax returns to their rightful owners. That's why they have set up the Where's My Refund website.

Where’s My Refund is an online tool on the Internal Revenue Service website to assist you in checking on the status of your refund.

In the event that you believe that you should get a tax refund you should be able to check its status. Till now this was not possible but the “Where’s My Refund” Tool plans to change this.

Last year, the IRS issued 107 million refunds totaling $312 million, a 5 percent annual increase.
