Indiana Earthquake Today?

An earthquake shook north central Indiana today and may have been felt in parts of the Chicago area.

Residents of Chicago, Naperville and Buffalo Grove, Illinois said they felt their beds shaking and saw their ceiling fans move today.

On Twitter, people from Indiana wrote that their houses shook, doors rattled and the earthquake sounded like rolling thunder.

What was the magnitude of the earthquake in Indiana today? Has there been any serious damage in Indiana?

The U.S. Geological Survey said on its website that the quake occurred at 7:55 a.m. Thursday and was centered about five miles south of Greentown in Howard County, which is about 50 miles north of Indianapolis.

People as far west as Elgin and far east as Toledo, Ohio, are reporting they felt the tremor early this morning.

So far there have been reports of cracked window panes, fallen gutters, shifted furniture and other minor damage.

The Indiana Geological Survey had no records of an earthquake this size in Central Indiana ever.
