Police in Virginia have issued an Amber Alert for Brittany Mae Smith as they continue to search for the 12-year-old Roanoke County girl believed to have been taken against her will after her mother may have been murdered in their home.
Police say they think Brittany Mae Smith who is a seventh-grader from Salem, Va., is still alive, and they suspect she’s in the company of a large man who is being sought in connection with Tina’s death.
Authorities suspect a guy named Jeffrey Scott Easley, who is a friend of the family who met the girl's mother online over the summer and developed a relationship with her. Easley moved in with Smith and her daughter in October.
Jeff Easley's mother, Sallie Martin, made a plea directly to her son to contact her or police. She urged Jeff to take Brittany to a safe place and return her or call 911.
