The woman inserts the latex condom like a tampon. Jagged rows of teeth-like hooks line its inside and attach on a man's genitalia during penetration. The device is very painful and once it is on, the man cannot pee or walk, nor can he remove it. Once it lodges, only a doctor can remove it.
Lots of the new female condoms are being distributed around the various South African cities.
However critics believe the female condom makes women vulnerable to more violence from men trapped by the device.

South Africa has one of the world's highest crime rates outside war zones, with 50 murders and 140 rapes reported each day, though experts believe the real number could be many times higher.
The new condom was patented in 2007, it's being evaluated by the country's Bureau of Standards and would sell for about $2.50.
