Hurricane Earl New York City?

Is hurricane Earl going to hit the northeast, specifically the New York City region?
As far as my research goes, it looks like it's going towards New York City and I'm scared.
What do the meteorologists say about Hurricane Earl's path?
The current track shows Hurricane Earl is passing east of the U.S. coast by only about 300 miles in some spots. With a slight change of track it could make landfall.

While the Category 3 monster Hurricane Earl is not expected to make direct landfall in New York City, you could experience some nasty leftovers if it continues on its current West-bound course.
Even if New York City is not directly hit by hurricane Earl, the hurricane could cause “devastating flooding and erosion” to low-lying areas with its top winds at 135 mph.

The National Hurricane Center predicts Earl will head north along the East Coast around Thursday before curving back out to sea. The Office of Emergency Management is checking its supplies and evacuation center provisions for the first time since last year's hurricane season.

The storm may take another direction. It could move due west and peter out along the Caribbean. But it certainly looks like the Northeast, particularly New York City and New England, is threatened. Earl could maintain wind speeds of up to 115 mph by Friday, when it expects to hit the Mid-Atlantic. It would reduce in strength by Saturday, when it would hit Maine.

While city officials say there will be no mandatory evacuations for those living on the shore, residents living on the Brooklyn and Queens coasts have started to evacuate just in case, to be safe.
Hurricane Earl is expected to disrupt travel plans in New York over the Labor Day weekend.
