GM Recall June 2010 List?

Today June 8, 2010, GM said that it was recalling cars and trucks from the 2006 to 2009 model years because their heated washer-fluid system could short circuit and cause a fire.
The recall is a big one, 1.5 million cars are affected.

GM recalled 944,000 vehicles for this same problem two years ago, but now in June they say the fixes it made aren't stopping new fires. GM dealers will simply disable the system altogether.

I would like to read more information about the GM recall. Where can I find the model list of cart that are being recalled by General Motors?

The recall covers several vehicles made between 2007 and 2009, including the Buick Enclave and Lucerne; Cadillac CTS, DTS, Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado 3500, Suburban, Tahoe and Traverse; GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL, Hummer H2 and Saturn Outlook.

The cause? A short circuit in the circuit board that controls the system caused a grounding wire to overheat. That led to smoke and the malfunctioning of other electrical components. There have new reports of "thermal incidents," including five fires, in vehicles that have had the repair, according to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

GM said it will pay car owners $100 for each vehicle because the feature won’t be available and the maker of the units is out of business.

Most of the vehicles, 1,365,070, are in the United States; there are 98,794 affected vehicles in Canada; 26,228 in Mexico, and 38,093 exports, according to GM.

A government investigation was closed after the 2008 recall. However, GM kept monitoring for reports of problems with the system.

According to GM, washer-fluid heaters have caused five fires. None has resulted in injury or death, but that's not the point.

GM's critics -- and there are many -- will cite this as just one more reason GM didn't deserve to be resuscitated using federal funds. But it can also be spun as a sign that the company is on the mend.

GM made a press release about the June 2010 recall.

"Dealership service personnel will remove the heated washer fluid module and reroute washer fluid hoses. Customers will begin receiving recall letters this month, but they can contact their dealer at any time to make an appointment to have the heated washer system removed."

This is dire news for the newly successful GM. In 2009, GM recieved a $13.7 billion bridge loan bailout from the U.S. government in an effort to sustain the economy. In the first quarter of 2010, GM saw its first profit since 2007. The public backlash towards GM could seriously damage the car manufacturer's reputation.
