McDonalds Shrek Glass Recall Cadmium?

McDonald's is recalling 12 million "Shrek" glass cups because the paint on them contains cadmium, a toxic metal.

It turns out that the cartoon designs on the $2 Shrek glasses have the chemical cadmium, a toxic associated with industrial metal processing.

The thing is, my sister bought the Shrek glasses at McDonalds and her children probably drank from them. Does it mean that they have to go to the doctor to see if they have cadmium on them or is it OK if they used the glasses just a few times?

The said glass has been distributed with a volume of 12 million. All of these are announced for recall. Long-term exposure to this said chemical might lead to adverse health effects as advised by the Consumer Protection Safety Commission (CPSC).

Cadmium can enter your body from smoking tobacco, eating and drinking food and water containing cadmium, and inhaling it from the air. Your skin does not easily absorb cadmium so touching cadmium will not likely cause adverse health effects.

Health effects caused by cadmium depend on how much has entered your body, how long you have been exposed and how your body responds.

A CSPC spokesman says the amount of cadmium in the glasses is "far below" the amount that spurred a recent recall of children's jewelry.
Customers are instructed to stop using the glasses immediately. McDonald's says information on how to return the glasses and get a refund will be released shortly.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the warning Friday, noting there have been no incidents of illness reported.
The cadmium could leach from the paint onto a child's hand then enter the body when the child puts that hand to his or her mouth, said CPSC spokesman Scott Wolfson.

By law, no more than 75 parts per million of cadmium is supposed to be present in paint on kids toys. The amount found on the glasses was quite a bit higher than that.
