V–J day in Times Square, perhaps the most famous photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt, is of an American sailor kissing a young nurse on V-J Day in Times Square on August 14, 1945, that originally was published a week later in Life magazine among many photographs of celebrations around the country that were presented in a twelve-page section called Victory.
The fact is he was kissing every girl he encountered and for that kiss, this particular nurse slapped him.
Shain was a 27-year-old nurse at the time and she later became a school teacher in California where she married and had three children.
Various men have claimed to be the man in the photo, but she says it is impossible to know who it was for sure.
