Police now believe Brittanee Drexel is dead.
Investigators Brittanee Drexel was murdered while on spring break in South Carolina.
But that's what they say, they haven't found Brittanee Drexel dead yet. She is still missing.
They haven't found a body either.
Multiple media outlets reported today that investigators are confident the information they've received from tips is leading them into finding who is responsible for Brittanee Marie Drexel's disappearance.
Georgetown County investigator Chris Bailey told a TV station a tip he got in December provided the break in the case. Bailey did not say what that tip was.
Drexel’s family said they’re trying to come to terms with the fact that Brittanee may not be alive and said they won’t be able to rest until they know for sure what happened.
Dawn Drexel, Brittanee Drexel's mother, said from her home in New York state that police did not give her any specifics of the tips they have. This is the first reported lead in the case, which has involved searches by law enforcement officers and a private organization from Brunswick County, N.C.
Contact was lost between Drexel and her family in New York on April 25, 2009, the same night authorities say she disappeared. The last signal from her cell phone came the next night near the South Santee River.
Brittanee Drexel's mother says no one can understand what it feels like to have a child disappear, unless they have been through it.
Detectives are not ready to release information on when arrests will happen. The Drexel’s will be holding a march and candlelight vigil for Brittanie in Myrtle Beach on the anniversary of her disappearance, on the 25th.
