Dwight Gooden was arrested Tuesday morning in New Jersey after he crashed his car into another vehicle while driving under the influence of drugs.

According to the official police press release first published by Deadspin, Gooden was charged with the following:

* Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
* Endangering the Welfare of a Child
* Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs
* DWI with a Child Passenger
* Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident
* Reckless Driving
* Failure to Keep Right
* Failure to Notify Change of Address regarding driver’s license

The police did not say what drugs they believe Gooden was on at the time.

After his arrest, Gooden was released on his own recognizance until a municipal court hearing. It was not clear whether he had an attorney or not.

Gooden's legal and substance abuse troubles are well-publicized.

After his baseball career, highlighted by the 1986 World Series victory with the Mets, Gooden struggled with drug problems and served a six-month sentence in 2006 after a conviction for possession of cocaine. He has reportedly spent five different stints in drug and alcohol rehab over the years.

Recently, though, Gooden had remained out of trouble for a good amount of time and was said to have been sober for about 3 1/2 years, leading up to taking over a minor league baseball team as the senior vice president.

In 2006, Gooden was released from a Florida prison after serving almost seven months for violating probation by using cocaine. He had been sentenced to a year and a day in jail that April after telling a probation officer he used the drug. Before that, he had been on three years’ probation for fleeing police during a drunk-driving stop in 2005.

Over his career, Gooden posted a 194-112 record with a 3.51 ERA and 2,293 strikeouts. He threw a no-hitter for the Yankees against Seattle on May 14, 1996.
