Reportedly a female trainer slipped into the Shamu tank today and drowned to the shock and horror of the guests.
But she slipped because the whale grabbed her from her back. The The 30-year-old, 5-ton marine killer whale that attacked and killed a female trainer at SeaWorld Orlando Wednesday afternoon has been involved in the deaths of two other people before. He drowned a biology student in 1991 and a dead gatecrasher was found draped on his back in 1999.
The trainer named Brancheau was bleeding from the face or mouth, they said, and the whale turned her over and over as it swam.
A witness to today's death, Victoria Biniak, said that "Tilly [Tillikum] took off really fast in the tank and he came back, shot up in the air, grabbed the trainer by the waist and started thrashing [her] around."
