Is Symbian Dying or Dead?

Is Symbian completely dead?
I bought a Nokia a couple of days ago, and I have to say - the phone is crap. Mostly because it runs Symbian and there are no apps for it, and this is when the serious aspect comes clear; I would like to write apps for it, but can't.
Is Symbian dying or dead already?

100 Million Nokia phones running Symbian sold, doesn't sound that it would be dead really.

The launch of the iPhone and Android SDKs represent a huge leap forward in the opportunities for mobile device application development. So Symbian looks a bit outdated.
But there's simply way more Symbian phones, way more Symbian software and way more Symbian developers than any either Apple or MS could hope to compete with at this stage.

Symbian is open source now, it is definitely not dead and it's not dying either.
