Is Memorial Day a Federal Holiday?

Hi there. A friend told me that Memorial Day is a federal holiday. I am not quite sure about this because I remember from last year about banks being open and mail working like a normal day. I would also like to know when is Memorial day this year? I know it is celebrated on one of May's last days. Is it a bank holiday? Is there mail in Memorial Day?

According to a federal law Memorial day is a federal holiday. Your friend was telling you the truth. This year is on Monday, the 28th of May. Remember Memorial day is a federal holiday like President's Day (which this year was on Monday, the 20th of February) and Independece Day. There is no mail and banks will not be open. Memorial day was always considered a national holiday.
