Sumatra Indonesia Earthquake Map 2010?

A 7.7 earthquake shook Indonesia's northwest island of Sumatra early Wednesday April 7 2010, sending residents rushing for higher ground.

The quake struck at 5:15 a.m. local time. Its epicenter was 200 kilometers northwest of the coastal town of Sibolga and 1,425 kilometers northwest of the country's capital, Jakarta.

Where exactly is the location of the 2010 Sumatra Indonesia earthquake in the map?

Have there been any reported deaths, injuries or damages? Was there any tsunami alert issued by the authorities?

A major earthquake off the coast of North Sumatra has caused widespread panic and electricity blackouts across the Indonesian province as residents rushed to higher ground.

But sea levels rose only 46 centimeters after the quake, the Indonesian meteorology agency said, prompting it to withdraw a tsunami warning.

At least five aftershocks measuring up to a magnitude of 5.2 were recorded.

The Indonesia Meteorology and Geophysics Agency and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu issued tsunami warnings following the quake, but lifted them two hours later.

"So far no damage or casualties have been reported and the situation is under control," Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf said.

Buildings shook and residents of coastal cities fled to higher ground, and there were blackouts in Medan and Banda Acheh. However there were no reports of major damage or casualties.

Since the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, Thailand has installed a high-tech warning system.

Authorities are rushing rescue workers and aid to the affected areas, but so far the scale of the disaster looks relatively small, although power has been knocked out for tens of thousands of people.

There have been a spate of earthquakes in 2010, with Chile, Haiti, Peru and Mexico all feeling the effects of the natural disaster this year and Italy remembered yesterday the one year anniversary of the L’Acquila.
