The Exploranter is an overland hotel on wheels that visits several beautiful places of Brazil. You'll always be on the road.
The 25-ton Scania truck and trailer that make up the Exploranter's lounge, kitchen and 28-berth sleeping quarters can go 'on the backroads, to parts of Brazil that nobody knows, according to the owner.
Most Exploranter itineraries start and end in São Paulo. American Airlines, Continental, Delta, United and Varig all fly from New York to São Paulo.
Itineraries, which operate year round, include a 16-day around Brazil tour (São Paulo to Valença in Minas Gerais by Exploranter, to Rio by shuttle and by air to the northeast), April 6 to 21; $1,485 a person. A trip through southern Brazil, April 27 to May 3, starts in Porto Alegre and ends in São Paulo; $220 for half-board.
Prices range from $40 to $60 a day, meals included unless stated otherwise, depending on number of staff members; restaurant meals extra. Groups of 10 or more can have an itinerary custom-made.
