Gen. David Petraeus Political Views?

President Obama today served notice on Pentagon brass that he's a tough Commander-in-Chief with zero tolerance for comments that undermine his authority or policies.
President Obama's choice for the new Afghanistan commander, Gen. David Petraeus, must be confirmed by the Senate.

In accepting the job, Petraeus will likely temporarily step down from his position as commander of the U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Fla. He is going to do a good job.
What are the political views of Gen. David Petraeus? What is his religion?

President Obama’s decision to replace Gen. Stanley McChrystal with David Petraeus as top commander in Afghanistan demonstrates an effort to reassert authority in one of the highest and most difficult priorities of his presidency.

Gen. Petraeus did not just save the US's bacon in Iraq (earning rumors that he could one day run for presidential high office), he helped to transform the US army from an organization built to fight conventional wars against industrialized enemies, to a fighting force that became the world leader in fighting against lightly armed guerrillas.

His political views?

Gen. David Petraeus is a registered Republican. He told Fox News in December that he stopped voting in 2002.

Petraeus has been assiduous in shooting down rumors about his political aspirations; in several interviews with Fox News, he has said he has "no desire" to seek elected office.

He pledged no interest in running during an appearance at the Georgetown Law Center in January and again at the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia last month.
