Copy a DVD Into My Computer

I want to make a backup of my DVD movies, in case one of my DVD disks fails.
I've been told DVD disks lose quality throughout the years. Not sure if it's true but I'd like to be on the safe side.
How do I make a copy of my DVDs into my computer? Should I just copy and paste them into a folder?

Copying the files from your DVD and pasting them onto your hard drive will not work at all. This is because DVD's are encoded with protection to stop pirates from making copies.
I recommend you use a DVD ripper such as DVD Shrink. You'll also need an application to get around the protection such as AnyDVD.
This will create an image of the DVD in your hard drive, which is an exact copy of the DVD content. You can then burn this DVD image into a recordable DVD (DVD-R).

I do all this by simply using Ashampoo, it is a very useful application that will do all these steps for you.
