Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was giving a town hall meeting at Oracle and Ina in Tucson AZ this morning when an unknown gunman stormed through the crowd and shot her.

US Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is said to be in critical condition right now.

Federal law enforcement sources said the shooter appears to be in custody, but they are still treating the incident as an active crime scene.

Other people were shot too, and at least 6 are dead. Witnesses described the shooter as being in his late teens or early 20s.

The identity of the man who shot US Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson AZ has not been officially revealed. Some sources are reporting he is Jared Laughner, a 22 year old man. He has a Myspace page as well as a Youtube page where he left messages before committing the crime.

US Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is alive at the moment, she is having surgery and is responding, although doctors described her condition as very serious.

One of the victims in the shooting was a young child and appeared to be in critical condition with a gunshot wound.
