Panama City School Board Shooting?

A school board meeting in Panama City, Florida, was disrupted by a gunman who fired shots at the board members before killing himself apparently in a rage about his wife needing a job.

The shooting unfolded Tuesday at the Bay County School Board meeting.

Fifty-six year-old Clay Duke is believed to be the Panama City school board shooter. Duke reportedly addressed the Panama City school board briefly, complaining that his wife was fired.

As the board was in the midst of a discussion, Duke walked to the front of the room, spray painted a red "V" with a circle around it on the white wall, then turned and waved a handgun.

Does anyone know the reason behind the shooting? Why was Clay Duke so mad at the Panama City School Board?

The gunman was angry because the school board fired his wife.

Before he opened fire, the superintendent tried reasoning with the gunman, pleading with him not to shoot anyone and claiming to have been the one who dismissed his wife.

Ginger Littleton, a board member who had escaped the meeting room, was seen creeping back in behind Duke and attempting to disarm him with her handbag.

At another point, Superintendent Bill Husfelt asks Duke to let everyone else go, saying he was likely the one responsible for firing Duke's wife. Duke turned his gun on Husfelt and fired, but the bullets miss him. He didn't hurt anyone in the board meeting.

Panama City Police Chief John Van Etten says Tuesday's date was circled on a calendar found in the trailer where 56-year-old Clay Duke lived north of Panama City, he planned the whole thing.
