Hendrik Coetzee Crocodile Attack?

Hendrik Coetzee, an acclaimed outdoors man who wrote movingly about testing himself against nature is presumed dead after a crocodile attack. Apparently the croc snatched him from his kayak while he led an American expedition from the source of the White Nile into the heart of Congo.

The International Rescue Committee was able to get to rescue two other guys who were kayaking with him, Stookesberry and Korbulic, but Hendrik Coetzee is missing and presumed dead.

Hendrik Coetzee often wrote on his blog, The Great White Explorer, of his expeditions in the wild. His words clearly express his love for nature and the freedom of living without instruction.

The body of 35-year-old Hendrik Coetzee, who was living in Uganda, has not been recovered. Are there any chances Hendrik Coetzee could still be alive somewhere?

The body of 35-year-old Hendrik Coetzee, who was living in Uganda, has not been recovered. The stretch of river where they were traveling is notoriously dangerous for its whitewater, and because of its high density of crocodiles and hippos.

It's very difficult Hendrik Coetzee could still be alive, given the time that has passed since he was attacked by the crocodile, still we should never lose hope.

Deadly hippo and crocodile attacks on humans are not uncommon in Africa, though figures are hard to pin down. Johnny Rodrigues, a wildlife expert in Zimbabwe, said parks authorities there are reluctant to give out numbers for fear of scaring away tourists.

The trip’s sponsor company Eddie Bauer said in a statement: ’We are saddened by the tragic accident and express our deepest sympathies to Hendrik Coetzee's family and friends.’
