Megalania Sightings?

There was once a monster called megalania prisca, it was a reptile reaching 30 feet in length and weighing at least 1,000 pounds or more. The Komodo dragon is roughly the size of a lion, but megalania was bigger than an average dairy cow. Scientists say megalania is now extinct but the creature has been sighted many times in the last century, and some sightings suggest that it lives also in New Guinea. Are these sightings a lie or is megalania still alive?

Megalania sightings are possible but not likely.

Possible because there are still discoveries of new species and supposed extinct species, like the prehistoric woolamai pine that was found in a remote gully in a national park.

Not likely because most of the mega fauna that survived up until the the arrival of humans was wiped out by predation and environmental impacts as the landscape changed from rain forest to grassland Savannah.

The sightings are most probably goannas or saltwater crocs. Young goannas can reach 2 metres easy.

well a huge lizard like that would definitely stand out in the desert, so I'm gonna say no. Megalania is extinct as far as i am concerned.
