April Fools Day History and Origin?

What is the history and origin of April Fools day?
I asked my dad about it and he said there are many theories about the origin of April Fools day but nobody really knows.
There must be a reason we celebrate April Fools day each year, I mean, there must be some history behind the day.

Is there a good source to read about the history of April Fools day?

Though April Fools Day has been observed for centuries in several countries, including France and Britain, its origin and real history is unknown.
The current thinking is that April Fools began around 1582 in France with the reform of the calendar under Charles IX.

Some people resisted the change and continued to celebrate New Years on April 1st.
Because of this, they were mocked and pranked for being outdated. That's basically the origin and history of April Fools day.

The April Fools tradition spread elsewhere like to Britain and Scotland in the 18th century and was introduced to America by the English and the French.
That's when we started to know about it.
