Palladia has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is now available through boarded specialists as a potential treatment option for mast cell tumors in dogs. Eventually, Palladia is scheduled to become more widely available through non-boarded veterinarians, likely in the early part of 2010, according to the manufacturer of the drug, Pfizer Animal Health.

The drug that you mentioned called Palladia is a tyrosine kinase receptor inhibitor. This is a technical way of saying the drug binds to receptors on the surface of cancer cells and prevents them from growing.

Mast cell tumors, which are the most common cutaneous tumors in dogs, are responsive to Palladia. The drug was approved for use in dogs with mast cell tumors by the FDA and dogs with mast cell tumor were shown to respond to this drug.

Hi - sorry to hear that you need Palladia! My baby (4 yr old Blue Heeler) is on it ... and it is working wonders for us! She had 6 ribs removed Feb 17 and started Palladia after the first type of chemo failed to get positive results. The drug is expensive and only available at limited vet offices - mostly only available at hospitals (medvet is my care giver). We take 65mg every other day and that requires a 15 and 50 mg pill. The cost is approximately $23 every other day -- but what it has given us in a quality of life if well worth it! I am watching for more places to purchase and at a lower price and will re-post if I hear anything! Good luck with your situation!
