Nelson Mandela's has pulled out of the World Cup opening ceremony after his great-granddaughter died in a car crash.
Zenani Mandela, who turned 13 earlier this week, was returning home from a World Cup kick-off concert in Soweto when she was involved in a deadly single-car collision on Thursday night.

Mr Mandela, 91, had been expected to take some part in the opening-day festivities, although his family expressed concerns about his health.

The car's driver was arrested and charged with drink-driving.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation said the tragedy made it inappropriate for the former president, who is 91, to attend the opening ceremony in Johannesburg.
The driver who caused the car crash, whom police didn't identify, could also face homicide charges.
