Stores Open on New Year's Day 2011?

What stores are open on new year's day 2011?
I was told all stores were going to be open on new year's day but today I went to Walmart in the morning and it was closed.
I need to buy a late Christmas gift for my son, I didn't have any money a week ago.
So what stores are supposed to be open today? Where can I find this information?

Yes, most stores are open and having great sales too. If you call them, even now, their recording should tell you if they are open.

Maybe some stores will remain closed in some cities, I don't know about that, just check with your local store to be sure.

These are some of the stores I know are open on New Year's day.

Target will be open from 7 am to 10pm.
WalMart opened bright and early at 6am and will stay open until 11pm.
Best Buy opened at 7am.
Sears – a 2-Day New Years Sales with stores open from 9am to 6pm.

My sister works at Target and she had to work just like any regular Saturday of the year.
