Hurricane Preparedness List: Guide & Kit?

I live in a hurricane prone area and I know I'm vulnerable, so I'd like to take actions to reduce the effects of a possible big storm.
Is there some sort of hurricane preparedness guide or list of stuff to do in order to prevent bad incidents?
I was told that there's some sort of preparedness kit you can check online but I'm not exactly sure where to look for it.
Since the first hurricane of the season is about to hit land, I'm very worried about my situation.

Hurricane hazards come in many forms, including storm surge, high winds, tornadoes, and flooding.
There are many Hurricane Preparedness kits online. Disaster prevention includes modifying your home to strengthen it against storms so that you can be as safe as possible.
There is a website named ready.org that has a thorough Hurricane Preparedness guide. You can visit that site here: ready.gov/america/beinformed/hurricanes.html
It also has a complete list of steps to follow in order to be prepared.
