Carly Fiorina's Health & Breast Cancer?

Carly Fiorina, the Republican nominee for the Senate from California, was hospitalized in Los Angeles with an infection related to breast cancer.
I didn't know Carly Fiorina's health was compromised by breast cancer. Fiorina was taken to a hospital where she received antibiotics.

A week before the election, Carly Fiorina's campaign was forced to cancel several appearances, just as her race was tightening up against Sen. Barbara Boxer.

When did Carly Fiorina find out she had breast cancer? Is she undergoing treatment for her cancer?

Carly Fiorina, 56, learned she had breast cancer in February 2009. She underwent chemotherapy, radiation and a double mastectomy in July.

According to a 2008 study in the Archives of Surgery, the rates of infection are 4.4% of women who have a mastectomy, 6.2% for those who undergo reconstructive surgery using some of their own (abdominal) tissue and double that, 12.4%, for those who have reconstructive surgery using implants.

Carly Fiorina remains cancer free and should return to the campaign trail soon.

Campaign chief Deborah Bowker said in a statement, “while this will impact her campaign schedule today, Carly is upbeat and her doctors expect her to make a quick and full recovery and be back on the campaign trail soon, Carly is looking forward to getting back to her full campaign schedule and to defeating Barbara Boxer on November 2.”

The longer Carly Fiorina stays hospitalized, the more uncertainty it creates. It could become an unexpected factor among undecided voters, who are expected to decide the race.
