Should Cell Phones Be Allowed In School?

Many schools do not allow students to bring their cell phones to school. It has been a huge problem at my school. Cell phones are obviously a distraction for students. If teachers set guidelines like use it only during lunch and break, keep it on silent, then it wouldn't be a problem.
Should they be allowed in schools?

Yes they should. It's difficult to avoid cell phones these days. They are everywhere. Most private schools have rules about using cell phones. Abide by them and you will not have a problem. Abuse the privilege, and it will be taken away.
Not that long ago this same question was being asked about pocket calculators, should we allow students to use them in exams?, of course we all know the result of that debate.
Out of politeness for the other students and teachers, you just have to turn off your cell phone during class.
