Are contacts bad for your eyes?

I've used glasses since I was 11 and I'm tired of them. Now I want contacts really bad but my parents won't let me use them because they hate the fact I would be sticking something in my eye.
I know this means putting a piece of plastic and unnatural fluids in the very delicate eye but I still want them.
Is it true that contact lenses are bad for your eyes?

They are perfectly safe, if you are willing to take care of your eyes, clean your contacts regularly and thoroughly and give your eyes an occasional "breather" by wearing your glasses.

Contact lenses are a popular alternative to eyeglasses. If the contacts are not properly cared for, eye problems can arise. However, given proper care, contact lenses are a safe way to increase the quality of your vision.

Cleaning the lenses is the most important way to keep them safe.
It is true that you can get an infection but that can only happen when you do not clean the contacts carefully and regularly.

You need to have your eyes tested by an ophthalmologist and that doctor will make sure the fit and sizing are correct for your vision correction.
