Mazda 6 Recall 2011: Yellow Sac Spiders?

Mazda is making a 2011 recall caused by Yellow Sac spiders. They say a spider could weave a web in a vent connected to the fuel tank system and clog up the tank's ventilation.

Mazda said it would be recalling 65,000 vehicles in the US, Canada and Mexico to outfit them with special screens to keep the spiders out.

Of all the cars that are part of the 2011 Mazda 6 recall, 52,000 are in the U.S.
How can I tell if my Mazda 6 is part of the 2011 recall?

Owners with questions can contact Mazda customer assistance at 1-800-222-5500.
Yellow Sac spiders like the smell of gasoline so much, they choose to build its webs in car emission systems.

If those vent lines get fully blocked by webbing, the car's fuel tank could conceivably build up enough pressure to crack and leak fuel.

There have been 20 reported cases of spider infestation in the Mazda 6 cars and all have been in four-cylinder engines, with the V6 engines unaffected.
