New Big Ten Logo 2011?

The Big Ten Conference revealed its new logo today, along with the breakdown of divisions that will occur next season, with the addition of Nebraska.

It's safe to say both the logo and the division names are drawing more criticism than praise.
The new logo simply says "Big Ten" in block letters and appears to have been created by a design novice.

The new Big Ten logo remains blue and white but is now more a block formation with the B-1-G in blue sitting on top of the T-E-N in blue and also a version of that in a horizontal form.

It's difficult to believe the Big Ten actually paid a professional firm for the simple block-letters design. Did you see the new Big Ten logo design?

The new Big Ten logo for 2011 looks like someone was assigned the redesign, completely forgot about it and then scrapped something together on Microsoft Paint a few minutes before it was due.

Of course, you cannot argue about taste and most certainly a lot of people are going to like the new design.

Designed by Michael Bierut and Michael Gericke of Pentegram Design, the new logo is relatively simplistic and very indistinguishable outside of the way the “I” and “G” in “BIG” are made to look like the number 10.

Notice how easily that new logo can change from B1G Ten to B16 Ten, leaving the door open for future expansion without another major logo overhaul?

This is the new design of the Big Ten logo for 2011.
