Billy Lane was sentenced to six years in prison for vehicular homicide on Friday.

At an emotional hearing in which Lane tearfully took responsibility for the death of Gerald Morelock, Billy Lane pleaded no contest to the charge.

At the sentencing Friday morning, the victim's family told the judge they would like to see something positive come out of their tragic loss. The victim's brother and nephew both said they would like to work with Lane to set up a non profit foundation to help raise money to help children as a way to continue to honor Gerald Morelock who enjoyed helping kids.

A Brevard Circuit judge today sentenced celebrity motorcycle builder Billy Lane to six years in prison and three years probation in connection with the Sept. 4, 2006, crash that left Sebastian Inlet park ranger Gerald Morelock dead.

Lane was immediately handcuffed and escorted from the courtroom.

Billy Lane, 39, is the owner of Choppers Inc. in Melbourne, Florida and became famous from his appearances in numerous bike building television shows. According to Wikipedia he owns several US patents on motorcycle parts and accessories and has authored two books one of which is an autobiography.

The case concerns traffic death of rider Gerald Morelock who died riding his motorcycle on State Road A1A south of Melbourne Beach on Sept. 4, 2006. Police say 39-year-old Lane's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when he crossed a double yellow line to pass slow traffic, allegedly crashing his Dodge pickup truck head-on into 56-year-old Sebastian Park Inlet ranger Gerald Morelock's motorcycle.

Credit for time served
Does anyone know if he was in custody since the crime? If so, he will get all credit for that and that could mean just 3 years in the joint. If he was in custody these past three years it all counts.
