Can we really be happy for a couple who left their spouses and broke up two families in order to be together?

John Partilla, 42, and Carol Anne Riddell, 40, met at a pre-kindegarten class, in which they both had kids. Though married at the time, the two eventually fell in love and decided to get married, allegedly avoiding an affair but decidedly leaving hurt spouses and children to recover.

Outrage over the startlingly honest love-story has swelled up on the Times' website, with some people asking how the couple could be so obviously proud of what they'd done to their families.

The buzz on the web is that Carol Anne Riddell is a selfish individual and he isn't seen as much better. But, they are in love and don't seem to care much what the public thinks.

Carol Anne Riddell doesn't regret having a divorce. She says the backlash is “sort of surprising to me. I think people are focusing a lot on the negative, but there was a lot of positive.”
