Is The Flat Tax Fair & a Good Idea?

Texas Gov. Rick Perry rolled out the Flat Tax, which is an overhaul plan that is seeking to re-establish his appeal among conservatives.
The Flat Tax idea usually doesn’t surface until April, when taxpayers figure out how much they can get away with in their tax reporting.
Is the Flat Tax fair and a good idea or do you consider it unfair? How does it compare to Herman Cain's own plan about taxes?
Why is it a good idea for America in these times of economical crisis?

The Flat Tax plan would mean a significant reduction in how much money the government takes in.
Perry’s tax plan would create an alternative flat tax system that tax payers could choose if they want to.
According to its creators, the Flat Tax plan will lower and simplify tax rates, cut spending, reform entitlements, and grow jobs and economic opportunity.
It's too early to say if the Flat Tax plan is fair, I personally don't think is a good idea. There are many things that can go wrong.
