Amy Locane was charged with aggravated manslaughter and assault by automobile. She could face a maximum of 30 years in prison if convicted of both charges.

At around 9 p.m. on June 27, her 2007 Chevy Tahoe hit the passenger side of Fred Seeman's 2010 Mercury Milan as he was turning into a driveway. Helene, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was killed at the scene, according to police.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, Amy Locane's attorney Blair Zwillman said he was 'surprised' at the aggravated manslaughter charge.

Locane-Bovenizer has been free on $50,000 bail. She had originally been charged with vehicular homicide, but the grand jury returned an indictment on the upgraded first-degree charge that carries a possible 30-year prison sentence.
